Typically this time of year, I am still riding the natural high of “One Shining Moment” and the greatest month in sports coming to and end: Basketball Season! However this year is quite different with our country facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hoop Dreams have seemed to come to a near halt. Normally my schedule is already filled with, scouting, trainings, camps, clinics, pre-draft combines, group workouts, motivational presentations, talk radio spots, and anything else that has to do with the game of basketball, but 2020 is going to take a different path. We are all being challenged to take a unique approach in order to be remain productive in actively pursuing our livelihoods.
Since in past years I have received a pretty high amount of requests for my event shirts and apparel, I have teamed up with Jupmode Toledo on their “Here for Good” campaign in their effort to help local businesses stay afloat. So if you would have any interest in one of the ever so popular Darren Kohne’s Basketball Boot Camp T- Shirts please claim yours by clicking the link. Any proceeds received will be used towards one of my many charitable projects. Please share
I have officially just completed a 15 day juice cleanse. This is something I have wanted to do for quite some time yet hadn’t found the appropriate time to do so until now. I had completed a couple 3 and 5 days cleanses in the past few years though and was satisfied with the results.
Las Vegas is a place where people come from around the world to experience an atmosphere and excitement that they cannot regularly have at home. There is entertainment, nightlife and of course gambling in the most luxurious of settings. Whether a complete amateur or a seasoned professional, everybody hopes to hit the jackpot and leave this city with much more than they arrived with!
My experience in Thibodaux, Louisiana has been filled with nothing but positive memories and experiences. This Louisiana town, which lies on the bayou just south of I-10 is home to about 15,000 people as well as Nicholls State University! A town filled with outgoing people, great food, and for the most part spectacular weather has been my home for the past 8+ months.
With the recent passing of legendary basketball coach Don Meyer, I got to reflect on the trait about coach that I personally admired most. I didn’t really know coach. I met him a time or two in passing and I followed his programs from afar, and over the years have amassed a large collection of his coaching notes that have been passed down to me. I do though feel very confident in saying that Coach Don Meyer was a leader, basketball fanatic, and what is a rapidly dying characteristic in coaching, a TRUE student of the game!
Why is it so difficult to treat each and every person you come in contact with the same courtesy? Is it too difficult for each interaction you encounter to be filled with positive energy, genuineness as you cross their path, as if they were your personal guests? Whether simply passing someone in the hall, a meeting with a friend, or potentially someone you service through your occupation, would it not be energizing if you touched everyone as if they were family to an extent?
The NBA Playoffs are here! The match-ups are set! Under the guidance of new commissioner Adam Silver, the season that began with 30 hopeful franchises has been trimmed to 16 teams with a chance to achieve the dream of being World Champions! The NBA, which was founded in 1946, has grown to be a global phenomenon and is host to the highest paid athletes (average salary) on the planet. With the 82 game regular season now complete, the league is ready to tip off its 8 first round play-off series’ which will eventually lead to the crowning of the 2014 World Champs who will have the honor of hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy.
This past weekend I got to travel on a luxurious Carnival Cruise ship to Cozumel, Mexico and back! This trip couldn’t have been better with near perfect weather and pristine waters in every direction, I was left to relax, appreciate, and reflect on how good life is! Continue reading →
March Madness is upon us! The greatest and most exciting month is sport’s is now rolling with conference tournaments in full swing across the nation! Almost nightly teams are punching their tickets to the Big Dance and filling a line on the all elusive 68 team bracket that initially began as a 8 team tournament back in 1939. Since then it has grown to epidemic proportions in terms of intrigue and excitement that it brings not only to our country, but also globally! However Championship week also has its fair share of disappointments as bubbles are busted and careers come to an end a little prematurely as upsets are commonplace in the final week prior to the actual NCAA Tournament.
