My experience in Thibodaux, Louisiana has been filled with nothing but positive memories and experiences. This Louisiana town, which lies on the bayou just south of I-10 is home to about 15,000 people as well as Nicholls State University! A town filled with outgoing people, great food, and for the most part spectacular weather has been my home for the past 8+ months.
I have had so many good times and met so many terrific people during my time in this historic Cajun city but I will only highlight a few recommendations should you ever make the acquaintance of this pleasant town which is located an hour from both New Orleans and Baton Rouge!
The artistic entertainment offerings as well as the NCAA Division I athletics at Nicholls State University may be the best kept secret as well as the best bargain in town. Just remember when rooting for the Colonels that the appropriate chat is Geaux Colonels as apposed to the standard Go!
When seeking lodging in town you can’t beat the Carmel Inn & Suites, which is not only a family run organization but also a historic landmark in town. This hotel is one of a kind with service being at a huge premium. Rarely can you enter the premises without being greeted personally by one of the owners with a genuine welcome. They offer free breakfast as well as a complimentary dinner on weekdays. Their pool area is peaceful and serene and they offer a variety of room types. I cannot stress enough though the personal attention to detail of the ownership is what truly sets this place apart.
There are so many great places to eat in town. Some of my favorites include Spahr’s Seafood and Bubba’s. Also, a bit of a hidden secret are the terrific lunch options inside of the Rouses supermarket. However my absolute favorite, albeit a chain, is Santa Fe Cattle Company. There food is top rate, service is commendable and they may have as good of a general manager as I have come across. Ms. Tammy truly understands how to provide a great product and make customers feel important.
Thibodaux is an exciting town where rarely a week goes by without a great activity to take part in whether it be a parade, festival, fair, or concert there is always something great taking place in town. The old historic downtown area is filled with a plethora of shops, boutiques, bars, and restaurants coupled with beautiful architecture and design perfect for an afternoon stroll or a Saturday night date.
Its safe to say that you may have not heard of this town, but if you spend any amount of time in Thibodaux, LA I bet that it leaves a positive lasting impression on you! Aiyeeeee!
