The Overseas Basketball Combine is an awesome experience and opportunity for basketball players of all walks of life to keep their hoop dreams alive. This weekend players traveled from around the country to Tampa, FL for a three day event with the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of catching some decisions makers attention that could lead to a contract to play professional basketball somewhere on this planet.

It was late fall during my 5th grade year of elementary school and my closest friend from class suggested that I try out for the basketball team with him and some of our other classmates. Now, I had shot around a couple times on a 6-foot hoop that my neighbors had nailed to their tree, but had never played in even a pick up game of basketball at that point in my life.
The Holiday Season is upon us, which is generally regarded as the time period from Thanksgiving through New Years. Everybody views this month plus long period in different ways and spends their time away from work differently. No matter what your beliefs, traditions, and typical holiday practices, I would encourage each of you to be grateful for those whom have touched your life and go out of your way to express that to them with true holiday spirit!

The last, first practice of the year is a special thing for a Senior! It is a day of excitement; but also, a day of alarm that this is the last go around as a college basketball player! A day that you can’t wait to get started yet, one that makes you realize you have started your last long grueling stretch of practice where you beat up on your body and teammates for several weeks before you ever get to let your built up passion and new improved game from the year before out on an actual opponent!

Often in my travels I run across young people with million dollar dreams, a desire for the finer things in life and a wish to reach the pinnacle in their chosen trade. However, all too often those million dollar dreams are coupled with a minimum wage work ethic and mindset!
I remember the day like it was yesterday, I was a gangly 19 year old wandering around the University of Toledo’s campus on my second day as a transfer student at the place that I never wanted to go. Growing up in Toledo, I always wanted to get away but decided to transfer back after finding out some family news that needed me to be closer to home. I was with a guy I had just met who had coerced me to walk through to greek village against my interests because he said there would be tons of free food and ladies to meet. Soon after passing by a few fraternity houses filled with people, I came upon a table with 2 or 3 guys standing around it joined with a couple girls. A young lady explained that they were assisting a fraternity rush event for a group that had an off campus house, and that’s when I met Matt. Greeting me with his million dollar smile, we want on to chat for 45+ minutes and a bond right then was created. We hit it off immediately and the rest is nothing but fond memories.
